What Is Intentional Dating?
Intentional dating starts with clarity.
That sounds simple, but most of us were never taught to think very carefully about what we bring into a relationship, what we need from a partner, or which patterns actually help us feel secure and connected. We usually learn through experience, sometimes after spending a lot of time with people who were attractive, interesting, or exciting but were never especially compatible with us.
A more intentional approach asks better questions earlier.
What kind of relationship am I trying to build? Which values matter most in daily life? What helps me feel close to someone? What makes me feel respected? How do I respond to conflict? What kind of communication feels natural and sustainable?
Research gives us a good reason to care about those questions. Relationship science consistently points to responsiveness as an important part of intimacy. Researchers describe perceived partner responsiveness as the feeling that a partner understands you, validates your experience, and cares about your well-being. That sense of being understood and cared for shows up across research on intimacy, social support, and relationship security.
Values matter too, although values and personality are different pieces of the picture. A 2023 study of romantic couples found that personality similarity itself explained very little about relationship satisfaction. That is useful because it reminds us that compatibility is more complicated than finding someone who resembles us.
Intentional dating is really about paying attention to fit. A person may share your hobbies and still want a very different kind of relationship. Someone may have a different personality and still respond to you in ways that create security, warmth, and ease.
That is the philosophy behind Harvest. We want people to understand themselves more clearly while they date. Harvest helps members think about what they bring into a relationship, what they need from another person, and how those two sides of compatibility may line up.
The goal is a dating experience with more context, more self-awareness, and more meaningful ways to get to know people.
